Crimson Text Font Family

Crimson Text is a free open-source serif typeface created by Sebastian Kosch in the tradition of beautiful oldstyle book types. The design draws inspiration from the work of Jan Tschichold (Sabon), Robert Slimbach (Arno, Minion), and Jonathan Hoefler (Hoefler Text). Spacing and kerning were refined by Igino Marini using his iKern system, and a professional redesign was later commissioned by Google from Jacques Le Bailly.

The family includes six cuts spanning regular, semibold, and bold weights, each with Roman and Italic variants. Crimson Text features oldstyle figures, small caps, math characters, and support for a wide range of European languages. It is available on Google Fonts under the SIL Open Font License.

Crimson Text is ideal for book typography, long-form reading, academic papers, editorial layouts, and website body text. Its classical proportions and refined details make it one of the most respected open-source text serifs available.
