Aunt Bertha NF

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog
Aunt Bertha NF is a free antique serif font by Nick Curtis (Nick's Fonts), evoking the warm, slightly weathered character of late-Victorian and early-twentieth-century book typography. The font's gentle stroke contrast and traditional serif structure make it a strong free alternative to commercial antiqued serifs like David Nalle's Boswell — the font used on the 2007 paperback cover of A Wrinkle in Time.
Like Boswell, Aunt Bertha NF carries an old-book feel with serifs that hint at hand-set lead type. The slightly imperfect curves and historical proportions suit projects that need warmth and personality without looking obviously distressed: book covers, editorial layouts, vintage branding, and any design that benefits from a literary, period-appropriate serif.
Aunt Bertha NF is licensed under the 1001Fonts Free For Commercial Use License, available as a free TTF/OTF download. It works best at headline and subhead sizes where its character can be seen, and it pairs well with cleaner sans-serifs for body copy contrast.
