Corona

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog
Corona is a newspaper serif typeface designed by Chauncey H. Griffith and released by Mergenthaler Linotype in 1941. It belongs to Griffith's renowned Legibility Group, a series of faces engineered for maximum readability on low-quality newsprint. Corona is based on Ionic type forms and was one of the first styles created specifically for newspaper production.
The design is relatively condensed yet large on the body, giving an impression of strength and modernity. Walter Tracy praised Corona for carrying newspaper type design to a new level. Its sturdy serifs and open counters ensure clarity even at small point sizes and on rough paper stock, making it a benchmark in legibility-focused type design.
Corona is well suited for newspaper columns, long-form editorial content, book text, and any project requiring high readability at small sizes. It remains an enduring reference point in the history of functional text typography.
