About this font
Shrikhand is a vibrant, heavy-weight display typeface designed by Jonny Pinhorn, commissioned by Google Fonts in June 2015 and inspired by the colorful, inventive hand-painted street lettering found throughout the Indian state of Gujarat. Named after a beloved creamy Indian sweet dish, Shrikhand borrows its soft, bulging curves and smooth texture from its culinary namesake, creating letterforms that feel rich, generous, and full of flavor. Pinhorn developed Shrikhand during his three years living and working in Ahmedabad at the Indian Type Foundry, where his immersion in Indian visual culture deeply influenced the typeface's exuberant personality. Shrikhand fully supports both the Gujarati and Latin writing systems, making it a truly cross-cultural typographic achievement that bridges South Asian and Western design traditions. The bold, confident presence of Shrikhand makes it ideal for food branding, festival promotions, vibrant packaging, and any display application that demands joyful, eye-catching typography with cultural depth and authentic character.
