Underworld

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog
Underworld is a free grunge serif display font designed by hmeneses in 2006, modeled directly after the title typeface used in the Underworld: Evolution movie poster — which itself uses Eremaeus by Jim Marcus on T-26. The designer created Underworld specifically because no free version of Eremaeus existed at the time.
The typeface features bracket serifs with a heavily distressed, eroded texture that gives every letterform a weathered, gothic feel. The slightly irregular baseline and broken stroke contrast suit horror, fantasy, and dark thriller branding — exactly the territory where it was intended to live. The same Eremaeus-derived lettering is used on the Fallen (2016) movie poster, making Underworld the closest free alternative for recreating that look.
Underworld is licensed under the 1001Fonts Free For Commercial Use License, so it can be used in commercial projects without paying. It works best for movie poster recreations, book covers, gothic editorial layouts, themed graphics, and any short display setting where a distressed, ominous serif is needed. Available as a TTF download.
