About Stranger Things Font
Recently, a web series released on 15 July 2016 by Netflix, Stranger Things, has become the talk of the town. This American sci-fi psychological horror content got popularity for its story, and also the font its title was written in. Yes, you guessed it right. Today we are going to discuss the crispy, scary font used in our Netflix series, the ITC Benguiat font aka Stranger Things font.
The ITC Benguiat was designed by a Brooklyn-born typeface designer, Ed Benguiat. During Ed’s time, the Art Nouveau movement was reigning over the world. Ed was heavily inspired by the movement and designed his typeface with a large x-height. Also, the font characters have slopes on their inner side.
Short History & Features
This font was officially released by International Typeface Corporation in 1977. It was the company’s idea to name the font with the designer’s name (Benguiat) and the company initials (ITC).
In 1977, the ITC Benguiat font family had 3 weights. Each font weight includes 2 widths and complementary italic. Later in September 2008, the pro version of the font was released with Central European and Eastern European characters.
Earlier, it was used on the covers of Stephen King’s novels. When the Netflix series Stranger Things was in development, its creative studio was searching for a font that would match the show’s theme.
After trying lots of fonts to design the logo, Imaginary Forces (the creative studio) finally chose the ITC Benguiat font for their show’s logo. They used the typeface after a slight moderation. If you keep this font and the series logo side by side, you will find the changes between these two.
Stranger Things font features uppercase and lowercase letters, special characters, and numbers. It contains 493 glyphs in total.
