About the Font 

Frank Ruhl Libre is a modern version of the classic Hebrew serif typeface named ‘Frank Rühl’, designed by Yanek Iontef and published in 2016. Frank Rühl was the most commonly used Hebrew typeface in print. It was created by Rafael Frank and Auto Rühl, owner of the C.F. Rühl foundry at Leipzig, in 1908. Later they released the final edition of the typeface in 1910. The typeface was used as the body text for numerous Israeli newspapers, magazines and books. 

Frank Rühl was redesigned to meet the demands of modern printing techniques and to enhance legibility for long-form textual content that includes or excludes vowel marks. The design of Frank Rühl is inspired by the Venetian typeface that was used by a printer named Daniel Bomberg. It contains Sephardi proportions with 4½ stroke widths and has only one weight. In designing this typeface, Frank incorporates the simpleness of Antiqua and the pleasantness of Fraktur with the typeface. He lowered the contrast between the slender and thick strokes of the typeface to make the letterforms quieter. 

Frank Ruhl Libre is available under the SIL Open Font License. The modern version of the font family expanded to 5 weights. The serif font is only available for both personal use and commercial projects. You can download this google font from our website by scrolling down to the download section.
