The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog
Century Schoolbook is a transitional serif typeface with open counters, generous x-height, and high legibility designed specifically for extended reading. The letterforms are sturdy and well-spaced, making body text comfortable to read even at small sizes across printed textbooks and legal documents.
Morris Fuller Benton designed Century Schoolbook between 1917 and 1919 for American Type Founders at the request of textbook publisher Ginn and Co. The font includes approximately 253 glyphs and has become a standard for educational and legal publishing in North America.
Century Schoolbook suits textbook layouts, legal documents, academic papers, book interiors, long-form editorial, government publications, and any reading context that demands maximum clarity. The U.S. Supreme Court requires briefs to be set in Century family type. Various digital versions are available from multiple foundries.
