Banks Miles Single Line is a geometric monoline typeface designed by Keith Bates at K-Type. It draws inspiration from the lettering created for the British Post Office in 1970 by London design company Banks and Miles. The project, supervised by partner John Miles, included both Double Line and Single Line alphabets.
The font develops the original companion sans into a three-weight family with Regular, Medium, and Bold options, each featuring an optically corrected oblique. Distinctive features include teardrop-shaped bowls on letters like a, b, d, g, p, and q, achieving a level of elegance not always found in inline typefaces.
Banks Miles Single Line Regular is free for personal use, with full typefaces and commercial licenses available from K-Type. The font celebrates a significant moment in British graphic design history while offering a practical, versatile sans-serif option for contemporary projects that benefit from its unique monoline character.
