About the Font

Cartier is a high-class calligraphy typeface designed by Carl Dair and published by Graphix Line Studio. It is accessible for individual use at no cost. This is an ultramodern hand-drawn typeface with 278 stylish characters, along with capital letters, lower case letters, digits, broad sense punctuation marks, stylistic alternates, ligatures, swashes, a high-quality sneak peek, and so many special symbols that could be used in a wide range of design disciplines, such as T-shirt designs, logos, posters, art books, and much more.

In 1967, the Governor-General of Canada-in-Council commissioned Carl Dair to produce a new and uniquely Canadian typeface, and he created the Cartier family of serif old style designs. To commemorate the centennial of the Dominion of Canada, the first proof of Cartier was issued as “the first Canadian type to support the creation.” In 1977, Robert Norton released a remake of Cartier’s novel under the name Raleigh.

Rod McDonald, a Canadian typographer, later rebuilt this typeface in a digital version. McDonald’s Cartier simplified the stroke angles and eliminated discrepancies in the baseline weight to maintain a good horizontal flow.
