About Arial Font
Arial is a contemporary Sans-serif typeface that follows the Neo-grotesque style. It was designed by a team headed by Robin Nicholas and Patricia Saunders for Monotype typography in 1982. Arial was initially developed for IBM’s 240-DPI 3800–3 laser xerographic printer and IBM changed the name of the font to Sonoran Sans-serif to avoid licence restriction. However, the font became popular through Microsoft after being included in the Font Suite of the Windows 3.1 operating system since 1992. Later, the font became available for Mac OS X and all Postscript based laser printers. Arial font was created to be metrically equivalent to the Helvetica typeface so it can be used to display and print documents without owning a license for Helvetica.
Arial has more humanist characteristics than most of the nineteenth-century faces. It has rounder, fuller and softer curves, has terminal strokes in diagonal cuts and displays less mechanical appearance. The font contains more than 30 distinctive styles including Medium, Regular, Bold Italic, Narrow Italic, Excess Bold Italic, Extra Bold, Condensed, Condensed Medium, Black Italic, CE Regular, Light-weight and more. All the individual styles have been created with about 144 language support capacities, which allow them to be accessible across the globe.
Arial font family comprises many versions, including Arial Black, Arial Narrow, Arial Light, Arial Rounded etc. The typeface is great to be used in the body texts. It can also be used to design logos and posters. Arial has become the default font on Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
