About American Horror Story Font

The American Horror Story font is a version of ITC Willow. It is used in the show’s text and title logotype (designed in 1990). Indeed, they acquired a license for the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Font and modified it somewhat. Although this typeface has been used in a number of film and television productions, “American Horror Story” is the first time it has been utilized in a film or television production with a “horror” theme.

AHS is an Art Deco font inspired by ITC Willow, a strange design with a distinct Viennese Separatist flavor. This condensed sans-serif typeface was influenced by the work of Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, with its rough edges and use of alternating and hyphenated letters. The Willow typeface revitalized late-nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century arts and crafts.

The Charles Rennie Mackintosh Typeface Company released CRM American Horror in 2011 based on the Rennie Mackintosh (developed in 1993) font, although it is unclear if this is the same font used by American Horror Story or a later version. The designer based his design on the typeface used in the Broadway production. One issue that is more obvious is that the episode’s logotype is not identical to the typeface CRM American Horror.

The play’s opening scene, year number, cast, and credits are more reminiscent of Rennie Mackintosh’s work (you may have noted the difference between the letters “E,” “C,” and “O,” as well as the typeface used in the title logotype). This also demonstrates from the side that the logotype is unique.

The logotype’s text ornamentation (for example, the dotted figure under the letter “O”) should be credited to the font design used. According to the research I discovered, this style of interior design originated with the writings and drawings of Scottish designer and architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
