About the Font
Aisha Font was inspired by studies into the Maghribi script; its regular Arabic weight is based on a foundry type unearthed in a 19th-century book by Titus Nemeth. Titus reinterpreted the sources in the context of modern use and technology throughout the design process. He created a Latin face to go along with the Arabic, sketching them as separate but closely related types.
The Latin version of Aisha Font is an example of a design in which the Arabic version influenced the orientation of the Roman letters rather than the other way around.
The final designs have expansive curves and cheerful variations, creating Aisha a historically informed font for modern needs, with a broad variety of weights in both Arabic and Latin, based on a study surrounding Maghribi calligraphy and inspired by expressive Moroccan letters.
